Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers – Do’s & Don’ts

Our internal facial structures and skin both deteriorate with aging. Our fat pads shrink and fall down our faces over time, giving us jowls. As the skin loses collagen, flexibility, and hydration, ageing signs such as volume loss, fine lines, and wrinkles become more visible. Fortunately, it is possible to restore your youthful appearance without surgery. Dermal fillers are used to accomplish this.

Dermal fillers are fluid-like materials that are injected beneath the skin. Dermal fillers are used to give the skin a smoother, fuller, or both appearances. The following substances are examples of fillers:

  •         Calcium hydroxylapatite
  •         Hyaluronic acid
  •         Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)

Growing public awareness, easy access to fillers, and increased interest in using this technique among dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons have all contributed to a rise in the usage of fillers. Patients seeking to minimize lines and wrinkles can undergo a quick and simple procedure to improve their appearance. You should be prepared before your appointment or treatment, regardless of whether you are just beginning to consider cosmetic injectables or have already decided to receive dermal fillers. We have put up a list of Dos and Don’ts for you, when receiving these kinds of treatments.

1.  DO educate and prepare yourself

There is a ton of information available on cosmetic dermatology, and much of it needs to be considered. Do some research on the various filler options so you can speak with your provider at your consultation in a knowledgeable manner. Dermal fillers shouldn’t be used on women who are pregnant or nursing. Ask about the contents and discuss any concerns you have with your provider. People who have sensitivities to ingredients in the fillers shouldn’t take them either. Additionally, be aware of the hazards and the kind of product that will be administered. Know where each injection site for the medication you will be receiving is.

2. DON’T use OTC painkillers prior to the procedure

Before getting dermal fillers, you should stop using any over-the-counter painkillers at least one week in advance. Aspirin, Aleve, and other blood-thinning medications like ibuprofen can raise the risk of bleeding, bruising, and problems both during and after the injections.

3. DO seek care from a licensed medical professional

Make sure you seek the treatment from a licensed and competent professional, whether it’s your first-time receiving lip fillers or you travel frequently. Dermal fillers can be injected incorrectly, too much, or into the wrong parts of the face if they are handled improperly.

4. DON’T engage in vigorous exercise

Exercise that is strenuous just before and, in the days, following your injectable fillers can harm your results and prolong the healing process by creating additional swelling and bruising.

5. DO remain hydrated

Make sure you stay hydrated by drinking lots of water before to receiving any injectable treatments. The same applies to your recovery from treatment. You can also prevent excessive edema in the treated area by drinking more water.

6. DON’T undergo a filler before a major event

The motivation to get surgery could be a special occasion like a wedding or reunion but be sure to give yourself plenty of time to heal. Filler is not particularly intrusive, and recuperation is frequently rapid. But in case you are one of the unfortunate ones who does experience a little extra bruising or swelling, give yourself at least one week before a major event to heal.

7. DO follow the aftercare guidelines

Before you leave the office, your injector will go over the proper aftercare. They’ll probably tell you to avoid touching the injection sites, what level of sensitivity or swelling is usual, and when you may anticipate the bruising to go away.

If you have questions about what to expect from dermal fillers or Botox injections or how to best prepare before and after treatment, consult a plastic surgeon, nurse injector, or medical aesthetician. Depending on your unique situation and objectives, they might offer more detailed recommendations.
